SanDisk Will Supply Ericsson With MultiMediaCards For New MP3 Player Attachment to Cell Phones

Sep 7, 2000

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, Sept. 7, 2000-SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK), announced today it will supply Ericsson of Sweden with SanDisk's flash memory MultiMediaCard for storage of MP3 audio in Ericsson's new innovative and tiny MP3 Handsfree HPM-10 digital player. The small-size Internet player plugs into several new Ericsson mobile phones.

The announcement was made in Stockholm, where SanDisk officials are conducting press interviews with the media.

The Handsfree HPM-10, an advanced light blue colored player, about the size of a matchbook, plugs into Ericsson's T28, R320, R310 and A2618 cell phones. It is bundled with the 32 megabyte (MB) SanDisk MultiMediaCard that stores about a half-hour of music. A valuable feature of the HPM-10, is that it will automatically stop playing if an incoming call is received on the cell phone allowing the listener to take the call by pressing the microphone button on the headset/microphone combination. Once the call is completed the caller can resume listening to the music. The microphone button can also activate the voice dialing function without the user having to touch the phone.

The Handsfree HPM-10 MP3 player will be available before the end of the year in Europe. The unit initially will be for sale only in Europe but sales in other global regions will be considered.

"SanDisk is extremely pleased that Ericsson has selected us to provide our MultiMediaCards for the Handsfree HPM-10," said Nelson Chan, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at SanDisk. "Ericsson has once more demonstrated its advanced technical proficiency in the communications area by skillfully combining two popular products-a cell phone and an MP3 player. We are particularly excited about Ericsson's approach because there is already a very large installed base of  Ericsson cell phones in the market that can immediately be converted to music players by clickup on the Handsfree HPM-10."
